Costa Aguada Island Resort, Guimaras

Costa Aguada is a First Class Eco-Tourism Resort nestled in a 1,097 hectare privately owned crocodile shaped island. Officially a part of the Guimaras province located in the Visayas Region of the Philippine isles, it is southeast of Iloilo and Guimaras and west of Pulupandan, a town south of Bacolod, the Capital City of Negros Occidental. The Island boasts of its’ rolling mountains with lush virgin forest, bamboo thickets, coconut groves and hidden caves ideal for jungle trekking to the more adventurous nature-loving travelers.

The Island is inhabited by a wealth of wild life such as wild monkeys, deer, wild ducks and different species of rare birds. Its shores are lined with pockets of coves, which are abundant with marine life. Other features includes, a jungle park, an authentic World War II Japanese bunker and a local village where cottage industry like soap-making, vinegar processing, bag weaving, etc. can be witnessed.

Additional resort amenities includes: The Main Pavilion with 200-250 seats restaurant and bar, Convention Hall, Swimming Pool, Boutique-Island products & souvenirs, Picnic Camps with Bonfire Pits, Beachside Bar and Kiosk, Game Hall, Helipad and Wharf. Accommodations are Duplex and Single cottages of indigenous material with native décor include electric fans or air condition, private toilet and bath with hot and cold water, 49 NON AIRCON and 14 AIRCON ROOMS all in all.

Dinagyang Festival 2014

Iloilo Dinagyang Festival is a thanksgiving for and a celebration in honor of Sr. Santo Nino. But it prides itself as a festival of excellent folk choreography, a showcase of Ilonggo heritage and culture. It is as grand as Iloilo’s old churches and mansions

Highlights of the Festival
The religious highlight is the fluvial procession along Iloilo River. The cultural highlights are the Kasadyahan and the Ati-atihan parades and competitions.

The fluvial procession is on a Friday of the Dinagyang week. Devotees carrying assorted images of the Child Jesus ride in motorized bancas from the mouth of the river towards the pier area where the foot parade would start and then back to the church.

Held on a Saturday, Kasadyahan is a cultural parade. The presentation is theatrical and in local color.

The Ati-atihan contest on a Sunday, is a big event. Participated in by at least twenty groups or tribe, the warriors wipe brown body paint all over their body and dance to the drumbeats.

The festival was first started to celebrate the feast of the Sto. Nino. From a parish church festivity to honor the Child Jesus, the celebration has evolved to become a religious-cultural activity. It is now a vehicle to promote Iloilo as a tourist and investment destination.

Dinagyang Song tells of how Iloilo got its name, how it was sold by the aborigines to the Borneans led by a Datu Paiburong. It also describes Ilonggos’ proud heritage, industry and peaceful existence. It spells out hope and progress through Dinagyang.

The performances have awed audiences because of its spectacle – the choreography, costumes and music are very impressive. Especially, the choreography which has been noted by no less than the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The commission has tagged Dinagyang as the “Festival of Excellent Folk Choreography”.

Through the years, the festival has gained national prominence and recognition by winning the national street dancing competition. Now, people know that Dinagyang is Iloilo, and Iloilo is Dinagyang!

Sinulog 2014

Sinulog is a dance ritual in honor of the miraculous image of the Santo Nino. The dance moves to the sound of the drums and this resembles the current (Sinulog) of what was then known as Cebu’s Pahina River. Thus, in Cebuano, they say it’s Sinulog.

More than just the meaning of the word is the significance of the dance. Historians now say that Sinulog, which is of pagan origin, is the link between the country’s pagan past and its Christian present.

What began as a revival of an old dance brought government, business establishments, schools, pilgrims, artists and private individual together like never before. The attempt to enhance cultural awareness gave the Cebuanos a shared passion, a collective identity. In the end the Sinulog did give Cebu a culure. And a name. Pit Senyor!
